This is the latest picture completed for my next coloring book. As usual, I drew these horses on the page first, then considered what sort of background to add. The possibilities are endless of course, and if I think about it too much I’ll quickly become overwhelmed and the background will remain white. So I stare at the picture and allow my mind to go blank. I wait for a suggestion from the picture.
I say from “the picture”, but who knows where it actually comes from. Some arbitrarily firing neuron somewhere on the right side of my cerebral cortex? An old memory buried deep in my hippocampus associating three horses with The Starry Night, the movie The Birds and castles? Or an evanescent Muse whispering in my mind . . . . ? In the end it doesn’t matter where it comes from or what it is. I’m just glad I didn’t have to actually make the decision myself.
